Buoyant flakes

Buoyant Flakes Ocean Fertilization

Buoyant Flakes employ rice husks, lignin glue and mineral wastes to supplement nutrients missing from the sea surface. Their ultra-slow release over a year prevents problems of eutrophication and toxicity. Net benefits include: cooling albedo, more fish, and carbon sequestration at low cost and risk.

Key Functions:

Increases the biomass and biodiversity of aquatic life; sequesters atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2)
securely as carbonaceous seabed ooze & rock, refractory dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and
benign, dissolved, alkaline bicarbonate; increases oceanic albedo (reflectiveness) that cools the
surface waters; increases atmospheric DMS aerosols that nucleate or brighten cooling marine
clouds.
